Country, blues, acoustic folk... What else is there?

LATEST NEWS

January 2012

Happy New Year to all... we are the very epitome of annual bonhomie at the moment; must be the remnants of the small lake of alcohol consumed over the festive period.

Much has been happening since the last post. Recordings of Irish, Jack the Preacher and Stepping Out are complete and awaiting mastering. Several more are in process - it seems we may well have an album on our hands at some point in the next few months. The live set is now good to go, with nearly two hours of material available at the click of some sticks, and there has been talk of playing at a few more festivals during the summer. Which'll be nice.

Oh, and Santa was thoughtful enough to bring us a Washburn Rover (Google it - it's neither a mid-western vagrant nor a Chinese version of a classic British car) and a set of bongos so you can expect to hear both in anything we record or do live going forward!

July 2011

Booked our first show as a three piece and then Bob goes and gets sick so can't play. We'd blame it on the first-night nerves of a rock and roll virgin if it wasn't for the fact that he's so obviously old. Never mind, Jon and Dunc manage to produce 45 minutes of guitar and bass odyssey and keep a reasonable size audience entertained. Roll on the next opportunity...

We've also been busy doing some recording of late. Expect to see Irish posted online soon as well as versions of Jack the Preacher and Stepping Out. It's amazing what you can do with a copy of Cubase and a USB audio interface these days... :)

January 2011

Rehearsals progress slooooowly given our commitment to making the set sound the way it ought. Never mind, all the best bands are three pieces so it can't be that difficult. Right? Right.

August 2010

So, as it turned out, 2010 brought more changes to the Rosedale line-up. Simon left the band and, despite a brief return, then hung up his four-string slot for good. Rather than find yet another bass player and slowly descend into Spinal Tap territory, Jon, Bob and Dunc have decided to consolidate to a three piece with Jon taking on alternate lead guitar and bass duties. This currently means that we're rearranging and re-learning the set, with some songs fitting in more easily than others, but are still playing live whenever we can. However, if you're a red-hot bass player and have always wanted to join us but never had the courage before, please call!

November 2009

Well, we've finished our planned gigs for this year, barring a couple of possible Open Mics before Christmas. The set list is now up to around 90 minutes and pretty solid so the focus is on learning a couple of new covers and writing some more original tracks - ideas aplenty. Looking forwards to seeing what 2010 brings...

July 2009

Live dates this summer have been going really well - some very appreciative audiences and new bookings as a result. Check back to the Live page for latest dates and come and see us (again!) soon.

April 2009

First 2008 gigs booked

New bassman Craig has surpassed even our high expectations and learnt the setlist in a couple of weeks. That means we're going out live again and we can't wait. Check out the Live page for details...

BASS PLAYER WANTED NO LONGER!

We've filled the four string slot - thanks be to the gods of rock n hillbilly roll! Craig, (who played with the rest of us in a previous incarnation) has relieved himself of his professional gigging duties and agreed to rejoin Rosedale Crossing full time. Not only does this mean we've got someone who already knows much of the setlist, but we're now semi-professional... although we sounded pro already (probably).

You'll see us out and gigging in the New Year around Nottingham so check out the gigs page for more details in January. Merry Christmas to all our readers in the meantime!

BASS PLAYER WANTED

Rosedale Crossing are looking for a new bassist. Must be free to rehearse once a week or so, able to learn existing set quickly, be reasonably experienced / talented / proficient and have own gear/transport - please e-mail us if you're interested in an audition or know someone that could fit the bill. Ta.

April 2007
Hallelujah - Hallelujah!

February 2007
So, February has come, and pretty much gone. The band have managed a whole two rehearsals but did enjoy a first live outing with a 40-minute set on a wet and windy evening in Nottingham. We took the featured artist slot at the regular open mic night at the Golden Fleece and you can see some of the photos here courtesy of stand-in cameraman Craig Bartle.

We await Joe's re-recording of the basslines for the studio tracks with baited breath (some technical issues with the home studio have accounted for the delay) and will get the results up on this site as soon as poss.

Finally, we're hoping to sneak an open mic showing at The Lion in Basford during March - always a good crowd of regulars at that one - so keep an eye out on the Live page for a date as soon as we get it.

January 2007
Well, Rosedale Crossing hasn't been up to all that much over Christmas. Apart from playing live for the first time (see below), it's been a quiet period all round for the band.

The live appearance happened at the regular open mic night at the Golden Fleece, Nottingham on the 27th November. Bruce was kind enough to let us play three songs (Hep Boy, Who to Trust? and England's Demise) - all of which seemed to go down pretty well to the regulars. The only blot on the copybook came as Dunc tried, unsuccessfully, to silence the rowdy group sitting stage-left; noisy buggers. Anyway, we're back there tonight (15th Jan) so hopefully they'll have forgotten what we look like...

The recording mentioned below has lain dormant whilst Joe re-takes his part using a proper amp (e-Bay for the old Marshall; back home with a shiny new Hartke) but, if anybody reading this is desparate to hear it, e-Mail in and we'll use it as an excuse to hurry the feck up...

And finally, there's a possibility that we might be playing at the Belvoir folk festival on the 19th/20th May - watch this (my)space or see the Live page.

November 2006
MySpace profile goes live and coincides with making England's Demise publicly available. This gives you something to listen to whilst we mix the results of the other recording sessions (Hep Boy, Hallelujah and Who to Trust?).

We're also pleased to report that Joe's Warwick bass seems to have pulled through after last month's harrowing ordeal and will be tested to the full at some of Nottingham's finest forthcoming open mic nights as we gear up for proper live shows starting early in 2007.

Finally, Bob has been living it up recently by getting VIP status at Glenn Hughes' recent gig in Prague. Lucky devil...

October 2006
New website goes live featuring some lovely
pics of the band. Recording starts during the first week in November so that MP3's can be made available for free download shortly.

Oh, and Joe's dropped his fretless Warwick bass. "It split the wood behind the neck, sort of partly pulled the neck fixing screws through the body. Made me feel ill when I saw it." were the only sensible words we could get out of him yesterday. Plenty of Araldite later, the strings are back on but he's going to have to keep a spare on standby until we're sure that Warwick's over the worst.

Our thoughts are with the Warwick family at this difficult time and we pray fervently for a speedy recovery...

September 2006
The
originals setlist gets into double figures with with the addition of England's Demise, My Father's Son and Who to Trust? There's some Page/Plant style wrangling over what's sounding best in each tune - but that's just the way that it ever was eh?

Summer 2006
Rehearsals progress apace in the luxury of
Quad Studios' welcoming bosom. Weekly get-togethers are an opportunity to discuss style as well as content and the setlist is growing with new numbers including Hallelujah and Bring It Down.

Joe has also been persuaded that fretless is the way forward and, despite some initial reluctance due to "out of practice" mumblings, he sees the light - praise the Lord!

Thursday 4th May 2006
First rehearsal with the current Rosedale Crossing line up is a success! Not only does bass player Joe show up on time but he's learnt the suggested tunes, admits to owning "ten or so" bass guitars and has a penchant for Jaco Pastorius...

The No Vacancies sign goes up on the band's van.

Spring 2006
Following the natural passing of their previous band, Dunc, Jon and Bob have met to write new tunes and discuss the options of bass player and vocalist replacement.

It's agreed that we'll find a new four-string player and see how Dunc fares on the microphone with an option to recruit a top-notch warbler if needed.

The initial writing sessions are going well with the first RC tunes solidifying as Hep Boy, Old Man Joe, Eventide, In Her Garden and a re-hash of previous number; Northern Town.
